Names of pastors who have provided the following news have been omitted for their protection. Pastors are being arrested by Russian forces. They are viewed as a threat since they are community leaders who will not support this war.
Most Ukrainian pastors & churches are facing challenges greater than ever before encountered. In many cases local pastors and believers are the only humanitarian aid. Especially where international organizations have not arrived, the pastors and churches we support are uniquely positioned to know and tend to the needs of their communities. Through your donations, Global Vision Ministries is able to jump the hurdles larger organizations face by funding local churches’ grass roots humanitarian efforts. Some are in cities occupied by Russian forces. Some are in or near war zones. Some, though spared from the torrent of military destruction, are overwhelmed by the millions of internal refugees. All are working to feed, house, and move the displaced to safer areas in the West and out of the country. All endeavor to shepherd their flocks any feasible way.
In cities occupied by Russian forces…
the adversities are greatest. War rages as Ukrainians wrestle to take back control. One such place, Kherson, is in this battle at the moment. In the occupied territories several pastors have been detained by Russian forces. One well known Melitopol pastor was freed after a week in captivity, but thousands are being forcefully taken into Russia. Reports of rape, murder, and theft echo, but miraculous testimonies of successful escapes also ring out. See evacuee interview.
In the war zones…
of the Northeast, East, South, and Central Ukraine churches risk life and limb to meet as often as possible. Sometimes this happens in the church building, sometimes in the darkness of an interior corridor, sometimes in a bomb shelter. Pastors shepherd their flocks and community at large providing encouragement, food, and shelter. Most of their people have been scattered to other nations or throughout Ukraine, some serving the in the armed forces, yet they stay connected as best they can.
In cities near war zones…
churches meet with comparative normalcy despite the millions of refugees passing through and the exodus of many of their own. These tenacious christians penetrate war zones carrying food and supplies in and taking people desperate to leave out. They also feed local soldiers protecting their cities, and help evacuees get to safer cities in the West.
Cities in the West…
are overwhelmed. The millions of refugees are being housed anywhere a bed may be placed until they can be bussed to Poland, Slovakia or Romania. Collecting and transporting food and supplies which they take to the East, South, and Central areas is an intricate and dangerous task since they also help evacuees leave. These churches are conduits for help coming from Poland and other European nations. They too are under potential attack and some cities, like Lviv recently, have been bombed intermittently.
